Day 6

Day 6 – Sunday August 9th

A – Today’s reading of the day is James Chapter 1 (NIV for me this second time around.)

Focal verse today is James 1:18 “He chose to give birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created.”

Review of the day: Verse 4 “Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Verse 9 “The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.” Verse 15 “Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” Verse 21 “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humble accept the word planted in you which can save you.”

B – RHEMA Strike Verse of the day: Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Depravity/black)

C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge:
“And certainly we see that God wants not merely an adventure, but an adventure to share. He didn’t have to make us, but he waned to. Though he knows the name of every star and his kingdom spans galaxies, God delights in being a part of our lives. Do you now why he often doesn’t answer prayer right away? Because he wants to talk to us, and sometimes that’s the only way to get us to stay and talk to him. His heart is for relationship, for shared adventure to the core.”

D – Today’s input: What are you going to surround yourself with today? Things that moth or rust will destroy? What type of actions and attitudes will you display today? Surround yourself with God and Godly things. Be involved with God. Bring God into the things that you are doing. If you don’t think you can then maybe you need to rethink what it is that you are doing.

E – Today’s prayer focus: Ask God to forgive your sins, each and every one of them. Ask God to come along with you today while you are going about your day.

F – Encouragement and closing thoughts: James 1:15 mentions desire turning into sin turning into death. What if we live a desire that brings joy and brings life, life everlasting.

Day 5

Day 5 – Saturday August 8th

A – Today’s reading of the day is James Chapter 5 (KJV for me this round.)

Focal verse today is James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Review of the day: Verse 8 “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts; for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.” Verse 13 “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms.” Verse 15 “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sin, they shall be forgiven him.”

B – RHEMA Strike Verse of the day: Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Depravity/black)

C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge:
“If you’re a leper, an outcast, a pariah of society whom no one has ever touched because you are “unclean,” if all you have ever longed for is just one kind word, then Christ is the incarnation of tender mercy. He reaches out and touches you. On the other hand, if you’re a Pharisee, one of those self-appointed doctrine police . . . watch out. On more then one occasion Jesus “picks a fight” with those notorious hypocrites. Take the story of the cripple woman in Luke 13.”

D – Today’s input: Are you ok in the physical state? Are you ok in the mental state? Are you ok in the spiritual state? Whether you think you are or are not, you should be asking God for help daily and even to the point of constantly. If you are relying on yourself, you won’t last forever. Share your needs with those who care and will help. You don’t have to do anything on your own. If you fall, look for the hand that can help you up. It will always be there.

E – Today’s prayer focus: What are your needs? What are the needs of those around you? What can someone help you with? What can you help someone else with?

F – Encouragement and closing thoughts: Once again, you are not alone. Push through whatever you may encounter and you will make it, with His help of course.

Day 4

Day 4 – Friday August 7th

A – Today’s reading of the day is James Chapter 4 (KJV for me this round.)

Focal verse today is James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Review of the day: Verse 3 “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon yours lusts.” Verse 6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Verse 8 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw night to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” Verse 10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” Verse 17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

B – RHEMA Strike Verse of the day: Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Friendship/Green)

C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge:
“God gave us eyes so that we might see; he gave us ears that we might hear; he gave us wills that we might choose, and he gave us hearts that we might live. The way we handle the heart is everything. A man must know he is powerful; he must know he has what it takes. … (a man’s heart is) Something wild and strong and valiant, just waiting to be released.”

D – Today’s input: Take what is available from God, what He has given you and what is there for the asking/taking, and do something with it. Are you stuck doing things that you don’t want to do or getting caught up in your own doings? Turn from it, turn to God!

E – Today’s prayer focus: Pray that you will draw to God. Pray that you will do more with what He has and wants.

F – Encouragement and closing thoughts: God is always there, always available. He wants to be one with us if we will only be one with Him. What are you waiting for?

Day 3

Day 3 – Thursday August 6th

A – Today’s reading of the day is James Chapter 3 (I’m still using King James Version (KJV) this round.)

Focal verse today is James 3:17 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”

Review of the day: Verse 13 “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.” Verse 18 “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”

B – RHEMA Strike Verse of the day:
Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Friendship/Green)

C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge:
“Deep in a man’s heart are some fundamental questions that simply cannot be answered at the kitchen table. Who am I? What am I made of? What am I destined for? … But the answers to his deepest questions are not to be found on television or in a refrigerator … He is called out, called up into something much bigger then he ever imagined, … If a man is ever to find out who he is and what he’s here for, he has got to take that journey for himself.”

D – Today’s input: Do you know who you are? Do others know who you are? Are you what God wants you to be? We are not in our wisdom. We are not in our strength. We are not in our riches, whatever they may be. To be what God wants us to be we need to be like what God is like. Lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness. Seek God and seek to be like God. Which is totally different then being a god, because if we truly look into ourselves and if we could see what others see of how we see ourselves, we are most likely fooling ourselves and acting as if we are our own god.

E – Today’s prayer focus: In addition to the previous day’s prayer focus’s, add a prayer to find in God the knowledge and characteristics that he has that he would like us to learn and practice. Those things that are first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

F – Encouragement and closing thoughts: I think that we have all heard the phrase “Stand for what is right or you’ll fall for anything.” Let’s take a stand and look to Ephesians 6 for some guidance.

Day 2

Day 2 – Wednesday August 5th

A – Today’s reading of the day is James Chapter 2 (I’m still using King James Version (KJV) this round.)

Focal verse today is James 2:8 “If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well”

Review of the day: Verse 5 “Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which the hath promised to them that love him?” Verses 15-16 “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?” Verse 20 “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” Verse 22 “Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?”

B – RHEMA Strike Verse of the day:
Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Friendship/Green)

C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge:
“But God made the masculine heart, set it within every man, and thereby offers him an invitation: Come, and live out what I meant you to be. God meant something when he meant man, and if we are to ever find ourselves we must find that.”

D – Today’s input: What will you do today for God? What will you do today for others? What is your purpose for what you do? God, yourself, fame, riches, etc.? Today show to others what God has given you, through your actions to them. Be an encouragement to your brother, your friend, your neighbor. Give and don’t expect a return.

E – Today’s prayer focus: In addition to Day 1’s prayer focus, add that God will show you what to give to those whose path you cross today.

F – Encouragement and closing thoughts: As I said for Day 1, you are not alone. Sometimes however we need to be the one who shows others that we are there for them. Be an encourager, be accountable.

Day 1

Day 1 – Tuesday August 4th

Welcome to the 30 days of Prep for Quest NW – Fall 2009 (QNWF09 for any military folks).

We will be sending you a daily email that we hope will be a blessing for us all as we prepare for our Quest. Our goal is to send out each day’s email the day or evening before so you have the entire next day to review it. They are also published on our blog website. The URL for that is: http://withwingsnw.blogspot.com/

We will be trying to keep a format that will be for ease of understanding. Subject to change from inputs as the month goes on.

This format will be:
A – Reading of the day from the Book of James
- a focal verse from the daily chapter
- a brief review of the day about the chapter
B – “RHEMA Strike Verse” of the day to assist in memorizing it
C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge
D – Input (from the staff)
E – Daily prayer focuses
F – Encouragement and closing thoughts

If at anytime you have a question or comment about the contents of the emails feel free to reply to me. Positive comments appreciated as well.

Let’s get started with our first day.

A – Today’s reading of the day is James Chapter 1 (My bible version of choice this first of six times reading James will be the King James Version (KJV).)
-Focal verse today is James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
-Review of the day: Verse 8 “a double minded man being unstable in all his ways”. Verse 14 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust”. Verse 20 “For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God”. Verse 22 includes the phrase “deceiving your own selves”. Verse 26 includes the phrase “deceiveth his own heart”.

B – RHEMA Strike Verse of the day:
Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Friendship/Green)

C – Excerpt from “Wild at Heart” by John Eldridge:
“If Christian men are going to change from a pitiful, wimpy bunch of "really nice guys" to men who are made in the image of God, they must reexamine their preconceptions about who God is and recover their true "wild" hearts.”

D – Today’s input: You may not know what to think right now. You may be thinking “Chris, what's this all about?" This is the beginning of 30 days, the beginning of the rest of your life. But you are not in this alone. There are a handful of us getting ready for a Quest, a Quest for God. Are you going to take this 30 days serious or is it just a waste of our time?

E – Today’s prayer focus: The Quest, those leading, those attending. Ask God for his wisdom. Pray for yourself and your family as we start and endure this journey.

F – Encouragement and closing thoughts: Just remember you are not in this alone. Stick with God and stick with us while we all prepare for this Quest. It will be worth it!

Rhema Strike Verses
